In the ancient time, the valley of Požega was inhabitant already since the 1st century, and the Romans have built numerous settlements and farms up to the 4th century.

All settlements were connected by roads, which were connected to the main routes – through Podravina: the road Poetovio (Ptuj) – Mursa (Osijek) and Posavina: Siscia (Sisak) – Marsunia (Slavonski Brod) – Sirmium (Sremska Mitrovica). Remains of these roads were found on several locations.

The Villa Rustica from the 4thcentury, discovered in Velika, on the location Kruge, and the tombstone from the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd century, found in Vetovo, witness of the Romanization of this area.
